Crowded Hous(ing Market)
When we opened Churches Estate Agents very first office in January 2015, we knew we were joining a challenging market and one of Dublin’s most competitive suburbs. Blackrock is the jewel in the crown of many large agency chains. An established, diverse and wealthy suburb with great schools, fine real estate and attractive amenities that makes selling houses here a more pleasurable experience than most other neighbourhoods.
Established offices such as Savills and Beirne & Wise (having incorporated the well-known Terry Halpenny) had the Blackrock market sown up, while new offices of the national titans Sherry Fitzgerald and DNG had also sprung up recently.
Later in the year Blackrock started to become even more crowded with agents, The Times running a story titled “Property boom in Blackrock – for estate agents’ premises” reporting the opening of a new branch by Lansdowne Partnership and ex-Savills manager Janet Carol going out on her own.
From New Kids On the Block to Top Of The Pops
Despite the crowded marketplace and the inauspicious timing with the Central Bank’s new mortgage rules, Churches hit the ground running and my the end of 2015 we had sale agree or sold almost 50 properties – putting us in the top 10 most active agents in South Dublin.
But our home base of Blackrock was always going to be a harder area to conquer. It took us almost a year to start making some traction in the area. In January 2016 we had only two or three properties in the suburb. But with our brand now firmly established and word-of-mouth reaching out to the fabulous local community, we’ve seen a boom in our enquiries and new properties coming to the market.
Finally this week we are delighted, proud and honoured to announce that we are officially (*according to Daft.ie statistics)…
The No. 1 Sales Agent in Blackrock!
With our current offering of 10 properties in Blackrock we have leapfrogged the traditional Blackrock big guns of Beirne & Wise and Savills, the more high value agents such as Lisneys in Dun Laoghaire and Hunters in Baggot Street, and Sherry Fitzgerald are not even on the list!

And yet the funny thing is this is not even the full extent of our sales in Blackrock. We currently have 4 off-market properties we are discussing privately with our select list of buyers. And a handful more to come, which will catapult us to the top of the list hopefully for many months to come.
